What DPNCheck Measures

The DPNCheck device reports 2 key values that are standard biomarkers for peripheral neuropathy:

  • Amplitude
  • Conduction Velocity

Normal Limits

  • Amplitude: >4 microvolts
  • Conduction Velocity: >40 meters per second

Understanding Your Results

Amplitude

The amplitude represents the number of large myelinated nerve fibers that are conducting electrical signals. A lower amplitude may indicate nerve fiber loss, which can occur in peripheral neuropathy. Normal amplitude is greater than 4 microvolts.

Conduction Velocity

Conduction velocity measures how fast electrical signals travel through the nerve. Slower conduction can indicate nerve damage or dysfunction. Normal conduction velocity is greater than 40 meters per second.

Result Interpretation

Based on the combination of amplitude and conduction velocity measurements, results can indicate:

  • Normal: Both values within normal limits
  • Mild Neuropathy: One or both values mildly abnormal
  • Moderate Neuropathy: More significantly abnormal values
  • Severe Neuropathy: Markedly abnormal or undetectable responses
